If you are a student and you’re looking for the right course of studies to undertake or a computer expert in search of a new way to reach success, you should take the road of the blockchain and learn how to develop software and smart contracts.

A simple search on Google Trends shows a search is up.
Do You Want To Find a Job? Bet on The Blockchain

This newborn technology – it has nine years, so we could say that it is still a little one – can lead you to a successful career.

According to a recent study conducted by Bloomberg, in fact, there is a rising demand for blockchain developers worldwide; and expertise shortage in this industry.

Every day there is a growing number of startups and companies that cannot manage to find a qualified blockchain developer.

I’m personally connected with a lot of Facebook and LinkedIn groups, and these platforms are plenty of people who are looking for blockchain developers everywhere in the world, and this number will grow.

There are 18.5 million software developers in the world, which half is dedicated only to Java-based software development. It is a little bit absurd.

Why do you want to become the umpteenth Java developer, instead of betting on a secure job? I mean, it is not just a bet. It is a safe bet, a certainty.

Recently, I read the William Mougayar book titled “The Business Blockchain”  he said: there are only

What is Blockchain Technology? A step-by-step guide than anyone can understand

There are only “5,000 developers dedicated to writing software for cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, and blockchain in general. And perhaps another 20,000 had dabbled with the technology, or have written front end applications that connect with the blockchain.”

I think it is an embarrassing number compared to the Java experts one I quoted above.

With more and more banks and financial companies starting to set up their blockchain to record transactions and asset transfers, and investors who bet $1.1 billion in distributed ledger-related startups, there aren’t enough developers who have skills in this area.

The well-known Enterprise Ethereum is fighting against this issue too. And its founder, Jeremy Millar hopes, in fact, that positioning the permission enterprise as beneficial to the public blockchain will help the world find some blockchain talents.

Open job positions and their pay

Just to show you an example. I’ve just checked on the most famous platforms where people can search for a job. Well, that’s it.

  • Monster.com lists 287 open job positions with “blockchain” in the job description;
  • Upwork.com
  • Indeed.com, 298 open job positions
  • Linkedin.com 345 open job positions

“With a pay that could arrive at $220,000 per year,” said entrepreneur Jered Kenna to Bloomberg.

Instead, Indeed.com shows the average of $106,706 per year, with the Software Engineering Manager job position that arrives at more than $122k per year.

Where can I study the blockchain?

rising demand for blockchain developers

“About 250 people are true masters”, said Jeff Garzik.

Globally, 7,000 to 8,000 people can develop for the blockchain with various levels of proficiency. Their ranks could grow to 100,000 in 18 to 24 months if more industries move from testing to deployment,” continued William Mougayar in a recent interview.

There are a few online courses, but usually, they are expensive, or they don’t provide any kind of certification.

In the world, there are a few university institutions that are starting to organize bitcoin and blockchain – related courses, with more top U.S. Business Schools that will incorporate blockchain courses in the next future.

  • Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business organizes an innovation and crypto-ventures course;
  • UCLA’s Anderson School of Management where the teacher is Bhagwan Chowdry, who nominated bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto for the 2016 Nobel Prize in Economics
  • India has two different academies where students can learn about bitcoin and the blockchain; and there are a few located in Australia, Singapore, Brazil and South Africa too;
  • University of California-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business offers a course that examines blockchain into broader fintech areas, such as mobile payments.

What if you don’t leave in the above countries? Or what if you have a limited budget?

Well, Blockgeeks organizes online and certified courses with the world’s top teachers and more than 7000 students worldwide.

Blockgeeks’ mission is sharing and growing the knowledge around the blockchain. This would be valuable to many people, but it is currently available only to a few; either locked in people’s heads or only accessible to select groups.

A few courses organized by Blockgeeks are completely free; you just need to create an account and sign up with Facebook or LinkedIn.

Oh shit!! (Can I say ‘shit’ here?) I thought blockchain would be a perfect fit for currency, bookkeeping, contracts and the like. If I’m understanding correctly, this is The Internet of Things on steroids and can tackle anything peer-to-peer!
This is my first day here and I think, like, my fifth post. I came here to learn about blockchain and cryptocurrencies more from an investment perspective. If I want to buy or invest in this new format I need to know what it is, where its going, what pitfalls to watch for. I started with the main blog then clicked on the must read section. (BTW you would save yourself a lot of wasted time by putting a sticky on the main blog for all newbies please “Click Here” first instead of “Must Read”.)
Okay, truth time. I’m a 60 YO+ chiropractor who blew out my shoulder and am awaiting surgery. I’m not ready to retire. Too young. But I may not be able to practice again and I have to make a decision. I may need to reinvent myself. That’s where I am ATM.

Question: I know zilch about computer programming. I am however, able to utilize nearly any and every computer-age tool available. Would it be worth my time even considering becoming blockchain certified? Can a non-geek do this?

ETA: Just read the Guidelines and see there’s no prohibition to saying ‘shit’, as long as the community is enlightened.

2nd ETA: Am enrolled in the kindergarten course and am VERY impressed! I still want to interface with someone. Please.

I’d add, pick the specialized transaction you think the world needs fast and start working on it 🙂
For Artists, Sports people, there are so many applications for smart contracts.

Great article! Years ago the question was will blockchain tech be adopted? Today, that is no longer the question. The question now is can it be successfully implemented. We need as many competent and proficient developers as possible!!!
