Enterprise Ethereum which are hybrid solutions which might shed some more light on considering Ethereum for SCM) Hyperledger in case of simplicity of employment makes it a more fruitful choice for supply chain managemenet, it being more business oriented by design. It is a private blockchain which counters the issue of exchange of confidential information on the block. However, it has its drawbacks as well. For instance, the aspect of decentralization is nullified if a company makes its own blockchain and maintains it. However, to diversify this, you can involve related parties in the supply chain process to host the network and thus, mitigate this issue to an extent. Your comparison KPIs should be ease of deployment, speed, security, and costs of execution/maintenance. Check out our article here for a more descriptive comparison of the two blockchain.

Hi Umang!

So, given that supply chain use case involves transactions and exchanges of details that are specific to each company’s internal mechanics, a public blockchain like Ethereum would not be a suitable choice. Furthermore, executing transactions on the public blockchain would make you dependent on the network speed of processing the transactions which may not match pace with the speed of validation for your company. Also, there are costs associated with each transaction that occurs on the Ethereum blockchain (gas cost/fees etc), hence would actually make it costly to have the entire SC process setup on it. (However, Consensys offers Enterprise Ethereum which are hybrid solutions which might shed some more light on considering Ethereum for SCM)
